GUIDED TOUR OF THE JULIANA ALPINE BOTANICAL GARDEN

FLOWERS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
The year 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the first protected area in Slovenian territory – the Alpine Conservation Park, the forerunner of our Triglav National Park. The Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden is also part of this only national park in Slovenia, which currently embraces a large part of the Julian Alps or no less than four percent of the Slovenian territory. The observance of the 100th anniversary takes place under the slogan "Conservation is existence", and Juliana conserves, too. During the guided tour, one can learn about protected, rare and endangered plants, which are kept alive in the garden for future generations.

Dates:

The entrance fee to Juliana according to the price list, while guided tours are free.

SENSORY EXPERIENCES IN JULIANA
(in association with the Arboretum Volčji Potok, within the project Let's meet in the gardens)
Birds singing, leaves rustling, the murmur of the Soča River, the fragrance of carnations and daphnes, silky hairy leaves and prickly needles, the sweet taste of fruits and rhizomes, and attractive colours in every step. During the guided tour, you will experience the Alpine botanical garden with all your senses.

The entrance fee to Juliana according to the price list, while guided tours are free.

BIRDWATCHING IN JULIANA AND ITS ENVIRONS
The year 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the first protected area in Slovenian territory – the Alpine Conservation Park, the forerunner of our Triglav National Park. The latter embraces a large part of the Julian Alps, and you can watch about 120 bird species in it. Bird experts (ornithologists) can often recognize them solely by their vocalization, and some of them can regularly be observed in the Alpine Botanical Garden of Juliana in the Trenta
Valley. You are invited to learn about birds with ornithologist Dare Fekonja from the Slovenian Bird Ringing Centre, which functions within the Slovenian Museum of Natural History.

The entrance fee to Juliana according to the price list, while guided tours are free.

THE TREASURE OF ZOISY THE DWARF
The Alpine botanical garden Juliana is situated in the heart of Triglav National Park and co-celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first protected area in Slovenian territory – the Alpine Conservation Park. The centennial celebration is taking place under the slogan "Conservation is existence". Admiring and protecting nature starts with children. This is the reason why we are inviting particularly families to visit Zoisy the Dwarf in Juliana and discover some special features from the world of plants and animals together with him. If children will respect and cherish nature already at this age, they will protect it as adults, too. Aided by a map, families will search for the treasure of Zoisy the Dwarf, with correctly solved tasks leading them to a chest with a sweet surprise.

The entrance fee to Juliana according to the price list, while guided tours are free.

THE SOČA TRAIL
(in association with Triglav National Park)
The year 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the first protected area in Slovenian territory – the Alpine Conservation Park, the forerunner of Triglav National Park. Through the park runs one of the most attractive educational itineraries – the Soča Trail, which leads visitors along the Soča River from its very source to Bovec. One of the stops on this route is the Alpine botanical garden Juliana. On a guided tour, the associates of Triglav National Park will take you along the emerald Soča River, with the tour including a visit to Juliana.

The entrance fee to Juliana for the participants of the guided tour along the Soča Trail is 2 EUR (paid on the entrance to the garden), with children entitled to free admission.

WW1 OUTDOOR MUSEUM KOLOVRAT - A VIEW OVER THE FRONT

The Kolovrat ridge rises above the Soča Valley and offers exceptional views over the emerald river, the Julian Alps, Venezia-Giulia, the Friuli lowland and the Adriatic Sea.

Today, we can enjoy the peace of unspoiled nature here, while during World War I the Kolovrat had to witness the destructive Isonzo Front. In the outdoor museum we are going to explore the onetime Italian line of defence with the preserved command posts, shooting positions, a network of trenches and caves with the impressive spiral stairs in one of them. This formerly crucial line of division is nowadays a symbol of the unifying power of remembrance, since we shall walk on both territories, the Italian and the Slovenian, while discovering the history of WW1.
