Tasting of dishes made with sheep and goat meat

On Friday, 4 September, between 10:00 and 13:00, you are invited to the Tolmin market, where a tasting of dishes made with sheep and goat meat will take place.
The dishes will be prepared by chef Tomaž Sovdat from Restaurant Mangrt, who will present how high-quality local sheep and goat meat can be transformed into attractive and delicious dishes using modern preparation techniques.
Sheep and goat farming has a long tradition in the Upper Soča Valley and plays an important economic and landscape-preservation role. Pasture farming, especially summer grazing in the high mountains, enables the production of high-quality meat while also helping to maintain extensive areas of cultivated landscape that would otherwise become overgrown. A well-preserved and managed cultural landscape is also important for the attractiveness of the area to visitors and for tourism development. Consumption of sheep and goat meat in the local environment still has significant potential, with new and modern preparation methods playing an important role.
The new covered market in Tolmin is also dedicated to connecting local production with consumers, providing a space for the promotion and presentation of local produce, products and dishes. Tasting events are an opportunity to discover local ingredients in a slightly different way, while chefs demonstrate how traditional ingredients can be incorporated into contemporary culinary offerings. This time, the focus will be on sheep and goat meat – a local ingredient with great potential for preparing a wide variety of dishes.
