Walk of Peace – Explore with us the underground labyrinth of First World War caverns on Vodice
6. 9. 2026 / Vodice / Parking area below the pilgrimage basilica on Sveta Gora
Visit to the Vodice First World War open-air museum
Vodice is a peak on the southwestern edge of the Banjšice Plateau, offering magnificent views of nearby Sveta Gora, the neighbouring Sabotin, and all the way to the Adriatic Sea. At the summit stand the mausoleum of General Maurizio Ferrante Gonzaga and the monument to the Alpine battalions Monte Levana, Aosta, and Val Toce, which captured the northwestern part of Vodice on 18 May 1917. Also worth exploring is the remarkable labyrinth of multi-level wartime caverns and the many well-preserved trenches.
