The hut is located on the lower edge of the Kuhinja mountain pasture, one of five pastures at the foot of the steep southern slopes of Mt. Krn, above the mountain village of Krn at an altitude of 1002 m. Access by car is possible directly to the parking lot almost at the hut.
It is a very popular starting point for ascents to
- Krn,
- Batognica via the Krnska škrbina notch,
- Mrzli vrh via the Sleme and Pretovč pastures, and
- the Italian military chapel on Planica.
The hut offers an indoor dining area for 20 visitors. In front of the hut, there are several benches and tables suitable for larger groups of visitors.
- The hut has 19 shared beds (dormitory style),
- a double and a triple room with a private bathroom and toilet.
The hut is regularly open every day from June 1st to September 30th, 2026.
