Julian Alps Hiking Trail opens in April 2019

The Julian Alps Hiking Trail is a new 300km circular trek around the mountainous north-west of Slovenia.

It is divided into stages of about 20km with the first legs opening in April and waymarking to be completed throughout by summer.

Each stage will start at a railway station or bus stop, close to places to eat, drink and stay. Hikers will pass lakes, waterfalls, forests, unusual rock formations and rivers with rapids of clear blue-green water.

The trail is appropriate for all walks of life, also for hikers with a lower fitness level, usually required for mountain hiking.

It is also planned to incorporate cycling trails in the future.
